Full course description

Step 1 is an exploratory course for those considering math or science teaching as a career. The course is designed for participants to investigate classroom complexity, social justice, and specific STEM practices for teaching and learning. Participants will develop teaching skills through video analysis, lesson planning, enactment of a STEM lesson, and readings and reflections. Specifically, Step 1 orients participants towards inquiry based teaching approaches and considers questions of how students demonstrate their learning in specific classroom situations.

Course content will be delivered and work will take place via 6 primarily asynchronous weekly modules beginning on W 10/30, with a final deadline for all work of Tu 12/17.  Particpants are encouraged to access the Canvas page prior to the 10/30 start date in order to take advantage of opportunities to meet the instructor and become familiar with the technology we will use.  Enrollment will close on F 11/1.
